Network Security -

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — AirTight Networks™, the leading provider of wireless intrusion prevention solutions, today announced it has teamed with MaxWiFi to provide the highest level of wireless security to the hundreds of hotels and motels that employ MaxWiFi to deliver Internet access, travel information, and entertainment services.

MaxWiFi provides a packaged solution for hotels and motels that want to provide Internet access, travel information, and entertainment services to their guests, without having to invest in a lot of equipment and staff. MaxWiFi’s solution, CADAT (patent pending), is a first in the industry, bringing a unique revenue sharing model to the hotel or motel operator. The hotel or motel contracts with MaxWiFi, MaxWiFi provides and installs their equipment, and manages the equipment and the services from their network operations center in Omaha, NE. MaxWiFi and the hotel/motel operator share the revenue. MaxWifi has teamed with AirTight Networks to provide a wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS) on top of the Cisco WLAN solution they install — for the highest possible level of wireless security for the hotel and its guests.

“Every hotelier today has to provide internet access and entertainment services to their guests,” said Shiva Prakash, president and CEO of MaxWiFi. “The most cost effective way to do this — is using a wireless LAN infrastructure, but this introduces some security risks. The AirTight SpectraGuard solution allows MaxWiFi to guarantee to our customers (the hotel) that their customers’ (the hotel guests’) information is secure and protected.”

The AirTight SpectraGuard Enterprise solution ensures that no intruder hacks their way into the MaxWiFi network — and steals guest information. It also ensures that guests don’t log onto neighboring, non-authorized WLAN networks by mistake — and allow their information to be copied. This higher level of security allows the hotel’s guests to sleep better at night, knowing their data is secure.

“MaxWiFi is a leader in providing this higher level of security to its customers,” said Dennis Tsu, vice president of marketing at AirTight Networks. “We have many customers in the hospitality industry — but MaxWiFi is the first to offer our WIPS capability as a service to the hotels as part of a packaged solution. As a frequent traveler myself, I’m going to look for hotels that have services from MaxWifi — to ensure that my data stays secure.”

AirTight Networks’ SpectraGuard Enterprise has established its industry leadership position by delivering the key elements of an effective wireless intrusion prevention system (WIPS):

-- detecting and correctly classifying wireless threats -- to catch all threats, while minimizing false alarms -- preventing (multiple, simultaneous) wireless threats -- while continuing to scan for new ones -- accurately locating the wireless threats on a floor map -- so they can be removed

As shown in the February 2006 Tolly Group report, the March 2006 Information Security Magazine review of WIPS solutions, and the May 2006 Tower Group report — AirTight’s SpectraGuard Enterprise outperforms its competitors in wireless intrusion prevention functionality.

Arbor Networks: Arbor Networks’ Peakflow X(R) Platform Provides Network Security for Germany’s University of Constance -

LEXINGTON, MA — Arbor Networks, Inc., a provider of core-to-core network security and operational performance for global business networks, today announced that its solution for the enterprise market, Arbor Peakflow X 3.6, was named the “Hot Pick” product for the November 2006 issue of Information Security magazine. Featuring increased network visibility and enhanced identity tracking, alerting and reporting functionality, Arbor Peakflow X 3.6 allows enterprises to make more informed, proactive mitigation decisions when faced with a wide range of known and unknown threats, including unauthorized access, data theft, worms, DDoS attacks, malware, phishing, pharming and botnets.

Reviewer Sandra Kay Miller praised Arbor Peakflow X 3.6 for its strong policy control; effectiveness in monitoring and detecting internal threats and anomalous behavior; and automated and on-demand comprehensive reporting. According to Miller, “We threw multiple common internal threats — rogue wireless access points, network worms and spyware — at Peakflow X, in addition to implementing user restrictions. In each instance, the product successfully detected and responded to the anomalous behavior.” This ability to effectively detect anomalous behavior earned the product an “A” for effectiveness.

Arbor’s Active Threat Feed (ATF), a service that automatically provides enterprises with early warning about threats facing their network, received noteworthy remarks from Miller as well. She points out that, “Not having to rely on signatures to provide this level of proactive security against threats and exploits is a big plus.”

“Arbor Peakflow X 3.6 underscores our commitment to anticipating the needs of global businesses by delivering better visibility into security and network operations’ events,” said Jack Boyle, CEO of Arbor Networks®. “We are pleased that Information Security magazine is recognizing Arbor Peakflow X as a powerful intrusion prevention tool that empowers our enterprise customers to protect themselves from the onslaught of security threats today.”

Industry Recognition

This “Hot Pick” comes on the heels of an already remarkable year for Arbor Networks. Arbor Peakflow X 3.6 was also the recipient of TechWorld’s 2006 Security Product of the Year award. In addition, the company has received top honors for outstanding growth and innovation this year including ranking second and 20th on Deloitte’s 2006 Technology Fast 50 and Fast 500 North America, respectively.

Availability

NETGEAR Provides Secure Clientless Access to Network Resources Affordably and Reliably SANTA CLARA, Calif., Nov. 1 -- NETGEAR, Inc. (Nasdaq: NTGR), a worldwide provider of technologically advanced, branded networking products, today announced that its new business-class SSL security solution, ProSafe SSL VPN Concentrator 25 (SSL312), was declared a breakthrough product by Tom’s Networking Guide. Designed to provide clientless secure remote access to the network resources of small- and medium- sized businesses, the review stated that the SSL312 is “poised to take some business from its bigger cousins.” “In fact, I believe that the NETGEAR SSL312 would feel right at home in the data centers of many larger businesses (usually the hallowed domain of big name networking firms only),” wrote reviewer Phillip Howell. “Similar devices from the big name networking firms can run into the thousands of dollars and configuring/maintaining them often requires a well-trained in-house IT staff or costly service contract. Quality business-class products at this price point have so far been nonexistent.” In addition to stating that NETGEAR has “more than succeeded” in building a cost-effective plug-and-play device that would service a majority of the needs of the small business community, Howell also praised the VPN performance of the hardware-accelerated SSL312. “I was pleasantly surprised that the VPN tunnel was rock solid. I didn’t experience any problems remotely controlling my PCs. Performance was on par with what I normally receive without a VPN connection. In fact, it was hard to tell that I was running over a VPN at all since it felt more like a direct connection.” “NETGEAR continues to focus on bringing quality, enterprise-class networking technologies to the small and medium business sector enabling robust functionality that is easy to set up and use at a budget-friendly price point,” explained Vivek Chugh, product line manager at NETGEAR. “The ProSafe SSL VPN Concentrator 25 (SSL312) is truly a breakthrough product as it is the first SSL VPN solution that makes it possible for even the smallest businesses to enjoy the convenience and ease-of-use that SSL VPN technology delivers, providing the robust security of a VPN connection without the headache of having to administer and manage VPN clients on each remote computer at a street price point of under $500.” About ProSafe SSL VPN Concentrator 25 (SSL312) NETGEAR’s ProSafe SSL VPN Concentrator 25 (SSL312), the industry’s most cost-effective SSL VPN solution with no licensing restrictions, comes with two 10/100 Ethernet ports and a console port for remote manageability.

TriGeo Network Security, Inc.: TriGeo SIM Captures “Best of Show” Award at Midsize Enterprise Summit -

PALO ALTO, CA — According to a survey of IT security buyers and professionals conducted by Sensory Networks, 70 percent of IT professionals are concerned about performance capabilities of security appliances. When asked about the number of security applications in their network, a third of the respondents have more than three applications running in the network, while 25 percent have at least two applications.

“As security appliances, such as unified threat management platforms, are widely implemented in organizations, there will be issues with maintaining wire speeds,” said Victoria Fodale, program manager and analyst for In Stat. “Running more than one application causes a significant reduction in speed. As a result, organizations are now asking for security vendors to accelerate their products in order to maintain performance and productivity while incorporating new applications and capabilities to defend against emerging threats.”

According to the survey respondents, product performance such as content-scanning speed and throughput is affecting their networks. More than 90 percent of the respondents, who are using security appliances and firewalls, think unified threat management (UTM) devices need to keep up with the latest applications so that their security products are able to defend against the latest network security viruses and threats.

As the security appliance market continues to grow, vendors are looking for ways to gain a competitive edge and increase market share. Sensory provides hardware acceleration technology that increases performance of all types of security applications including anti-virus, anti-spam, content filtering, firewall and intrusion detection systems.

“Organizations implement a variety of security products. But how effective is a product if it is not fast enough to protect against the newest computer worm or virus?” said Sab Gosal, VP of Marketing for Sensory Networks. “Security appliances will become quickly outdated if they do not ensure interoperability and maintain performance. With network security acceleration technology, security vendors are able to easily increase performance, coverage and accuracy to offer their customer the best value for a next-generation security product.”

About Sensory Networks

Cisco CCNA,CCNP,CCENT,and CompTIA Network+ And Security+ Questions: VLANs,SYN Attacks,And More! -

TAIPEI, TAIWAN — Fortinet — the pioneer and leading provider of unified threat management (UTM) security solutions — today announced that the China Institute of Technology (CHIT) in Taiwan has purchased and deployed Fortinet’s carrier-class FortiGate™-5050 multi-threat security platform with two FortiGate-5001FA2 blades, to protect its campus network and information systems from network threats.

The China Institute of Technology is a higher education institution, providing comprehensive programs in technology, business and aviation. The institute is committed to providing a quality learning environment for its students through the innovative use of advanced information technology. Comprised of two campuses, in Hsinchu and Nankang, Taipei, the institute has a student population of about 10,000.

With the recent deployment of a new gigabit-speed campus-wide network, CHIT required an effective, high-performance security solution to protect its students and the information assets of the institute. Important to CHIT was also that the prospective solution be highly-scalable to grow with increased performance and user demands on the institute’s network. After an evaluation period, during which solutions from a range of vendors were tested and compared, CHIT purchased a carrier-class FortiGate-5050 chassis-based system populated with two FortiGate-5001FA2 blades. Deployment was completed in July of this year, and the system is now running effectively on the campus network.

“Aside from excellent performance and security features, we needed a solution that we could deploy and use for a long time, possibly many years,” said Mr. Ven Jui-Hung, vice professor and consultant at the Computer Center for the China Institute of Technology. “The FortiGate-5000 Series was designed for high-speed, high-traffic network environments. As a result, as CHIT’s network grows, our Fortinet solution can scale to accommodate this without requiring us to upgrade our equipment.”

Mr. Ven believes that the amortized cost of the Fortinet solution and the significant decrease in maintenance effort and time, based on the expected long lifespan of this solution, make the purchase very cost-effective over the long term.

Carrier-class Security and Performance

Fortinet’s FortiGate-5050 is a chassis-based network security platform that delivers multi-gigabit performance and integrated multi-threat protection for high-bandwidth networks. FortiGate-5000 Series systems are the only security products to comply with the Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) standard. The systems integrate a complete set of security functions and services — including firewall, antivirus, VPN, intrusion protection, web content filtering, antispam, traffic shaping, and IM and P2P controls — to protect networks from sophisticated blended threats. All FortiGate systems are kept up-to-date automatically by Fortinet’s FortiGuard™ subscription services, which provide continuous updates to ensure protection against the latest viruses, worms, Trojans, and other threats.

“Educational institutes often face many security challenges but less funds and manpower,” said Hansen Chang, vice president for Asia Pacific for Fortinet. “Rather than settling for a less effective short-term solution, CHIT chose a wise path of purchasing a powerful multi-threat security platform from Fortinet that will scale to accommodate future growth and demands.”

About the China Institute of Technology (www.chit.edu.tw)

The China Institute of Technology (CHIT) was established in 1968 in response to the government’s call for more private engineering institutions. CHIT currently runs higher education and continuing education courses in business administration, electronics, electrical and mechanical engineering, avionics and aircraft engineering, and economics. CHIT also has 4 research centers on-campus and has a student enrollment of about 10,000 this year. CHIT achieved ISO 9001/2000 certification in August, 2001.

About Fortinet (www.fortinet.com)

Fortinet is the pioneer and market leading provider of ASIC-accelerated unified threat management (UTM) systems, which are used by enterprises and service providers to increase their security while reducing total operating costs. Fortinet solutions were built from the ground up to integrate multiple levels of security protection — including firewall, antivirus, intrusion prevention, VPN, spyware prevention and antispam — providing customers a way to protect multiple threats as well as blended threats. Leveraging a custom ASIC and unified interface, Fortinet solutions offer advanced security functionality that scales from remote office to chassis-based solutions with integrated management and reporting. Fortinet solutions have won multiple awards around the world and are the only security products that are certified eight times over by the ICSA (firewall, antivirus, IPSec, SSL, IDS, client antivirus detection, cleaning and antispyware). Fortinet is privately held and based in Sunnyvale, California.

POST FALLS, ID — TriGeo Network Security, a leading provider of security information management (SIM) solutions, today announced that SC Magazine has awarded TriGeo SIM a “Best Buy” for its power, flexibility and innovation. For the second consecutive year, TriGeo SIM has received SC Magazine’s highest rating in a comparative review of major security information and event management systems.

The TriGeo SIM was recognized for its many features including real-time log analysis, hundreds of pre-built correlations, and IDS/IPS functionality.
TriGeo’s easy set-up and use, clear and concise reporting functions and its reasonable price were all factors in achieving the Best Buy award. TriGeo earned five star ratings in every category including features, ease-of-use, performance, documentation, support and overall value for the money. The editors found the TriGeo product “simple to use” from the time the appliance was plugged in all the way through day to day management.
